LSB-Futures - Standards Ideas
Standards Ideas
The LSB is a trailing edge standard, interfaces cannot be added until they are already widely adopted. The LSB workgroup tries to avoid inventing new standards. Occationally the group will notice a problem area where the lack of a standard is causing divergence and propose a standard. Just like any other candidate, these ideas need to be widely adopted before they can be added to the LSB. This can sometimes take a very long time.
These are ideas for standards gathered from requests, brainstorming, and list discussions.
System Package Services
There are services on every system that a package will want to use. These are things like inetd/services, window manager and desktop menus, documentation systems.
Multiple Architecture Support
We are beginning to see increasing support for systems and applications that can support multiple binary targets. This page documents the problem and a proposed solution.
Open Issues, investigations needed
There are some subsystems/components that would be nice to standardize but need a separate group to investigate, develop consensus, etc.
